Our photo courses are based in the picturesque village of Cromarty, just north of Inverness. The immediate surrounding countryside and coast offers ample opportunities for landscape photography, allowing you to spend more time taking photographs with very little time wasted travelling from location to location.
Each course generally lasts for 3 days, with a maximum of 6 participants (one-to-one and special-interest courses can be offered as needed, on application). The course venue is the Old Brewery in Cromarty, which has been restored and refurbished to provide training facilities and residential accommodation under one roof.
On the workshop you will be shown how to use your digital camera and the basic and most important controls for creative photography. As the courses are limited to a maximum of 6 students, there will be time to give you individual help when required. Once you have mastered the various controls on your camera, we will move on to Composition, considering ‘structure’, lighting, colour and detail; you will be shown how to look at scene, choose the best viewpoint, decide what to include and exclude to create an eyecatching photograph. There are no pre-requisites as to skill level. All we ask is that you bring your own digital camera, ideally a DSLR. And, of course, suitable clothing and sturdy footwear.
A typical course structure would include:
Day 1: Pickup from Inverness at 9am (on request, unless you choose to arrive the day before), with the rest of the day on location, with packed lunch, returning for an evening meal at the Old Brewery. The shooting location would be one from a range of destinations chosen to reflect varied weather and seasonal conditions, including Strathconon, Plodda Falls, West Coast etc.
Day 2: Morning spent on location locally, returning to the Old Brewery for lunch, with the afternoon spent on post-processing until the evening meal.
Day 3: Morning spent on location locally, returning to the Old Brewery for lunch, with the afternoon spent on further post- processing (if needed) and printing of your chosen image, before the end of course at 5pm.
Time will be set aside to work on your photographs in Adobe Photoshop or Photoshop Elements (as you choose), and to discuss each day’s images. The course fee includes one print at A3 size produced on our Epson R2400 printer (further prints are of course available, as time permits, if you wish).
In near future there will be workshops on Isle of Skye and at Loch Hourn.
